A new study demonstrates that experiential purchases, such as a trip to an amusement park or brunch with friends, result in greater happiness than the material possessions acquired on a trip to the shopping mall. This is because real-life experience satisfies deeper personal needs: such as social interaction and learning new skills.
“Purchased experiences provide memory capital,” says Ryan Howell, assistant professor of psychology at San Francisco State University.
